Art Exposed

August 5th, 2008

Naked Genius, an artists’ collaboration group, has started a new newsletter at http://www.nakedgenius.com/art-exposed/. The first issue was launched on July 29, 2008. Among other items, it reports that Nick Fuller and I were both featured on the home page of Imagekind.com on the same day - a terrific coincidence!

In addition, it announces the release of a new line of my artwork  - “Design Art by Kinnally“. I’ve attached one pre-release artwork; see the article for the others and for information about the intent of the artwork. And while you’re there, look at the other great information about the artist members of Naked Genius.

Artistic Expressions

June 23rd, 2008

I’m one of the artists selected for a new art book “Artistic Expressions”, which can be seen at http://www.pixelatedpalette.com/recommendedreading.html It has more detail than the direct blurb link http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/256861

You might recognize the Imagkind art and artists. I titled the book (won a contest), did the reddish background art and we each have 3 pages of art + bio.

Thank you Elizabeth Edwards for putting this together!

Candy Chips

June 18th, 2008

I’ve created a small piece of art that I’ve put into RedBubble.com titled “Candy Chips”. It’s available as a card and it will probably primarily be a promotion piece, as it’s typical “Art by Kinnally”. Therefore at this time I have no intention of making it available as a large giclée print; just cards, brochures and the like.

If you like the look and the colors of this art, then you will probably also enjoy my award winning piece “Gooey Chocolate Caramel Nougat #1“, posted in this blog on April 26, 2008.

The Coasters

May 8th, 2008

This particular artwork was named in honor of the singing group, “The Coasters“. Some of you younger people might not know them but they had some great hits way back when… (way back, way back - click the link and select an album of theirs and you can listen to a few musical excerpts.)

But they also remind me of fabric circles, like my mom and grandmother used to make before they sewed them together to make those wonderful quilts!

The color scheme of this artwork with its rainbow of colors, both muted and bright, works very well and the whole piece comes together in a wonderful harmony. The 3D effect of  each ‘coaster’ and the layering of one on top of the other in a beautiful spiral pattern gives a dramatic look to the art and adds lots of visual interest.

Comments to date at Imagekind are: Absolutely fabulous! All the Best. - This is my favorite! Very cheerful, lots of motion! - Wow your work is amazing. I love fractals and you have mastered the technique :)  - Fantastic work!  - lovely ! nice colours  - Very cool  - Captivating and mezmerizing image!  - Amazing.

Needless to say this sort of reaction to my work pleases me very much! I hope you enjoy this as much as they did!

Shellfish Dream

May 5th, 2008

Those of you who haven’t visited my galleries lately at Imagekind may not have seen some of my latest artwork, so I’ll include some of my latest in a few of these blog posts.

This latest I call “Shellfish Dream” and it took me a few weeks to complete. It was a bit difficult to get the segments exactly how I wanted them to look, and to get the reflections to look as if the surface had some depth to it, almost like porcelain. No such shell exists, as it’s composed of four spirals not one. I hope you enjoy it!

First Place; “Dragon Skin”

April 27th, 2008

I entered an online art contest at ‘A Singular Creation’ in March. The theme was ‘Geometric Shapes and Fractals”. There were 165 entries and some terrific competition. I’m extremely pleased to have won First Place with my artwork ‘Dragon Skin’! Someone left a comment on the piece “Great composition, great colours, great pattern, great everything. It’s a beauty.” (View a larger version and other comments.) After winning ‘Best of Show’ last month, this make back-to-back top honors for my art! My next piece might have to be titled ‘Tickled Pink!”.Dragon Skin

Gooey Chocolate Caramel Nougat #1

April 26th, 2008

A lot has happened since my last post. In February I entered the 2008 Fine Art Show at the Heritage Museum. It is sponsored every year by the local art league.  There were 120 entries plus a youth division. This was the first show I had entered and the art consisted of paintings, watercolor, mixed media, photography, stained glass, metal work and pottery. You can see some of the winning artwork at http://gval.org/show.php.

At the awards ceremony, as they handed out ribbons and went through my category (there were prizes for each category of art) without mention of my work, I felt disappointed but thought “Well, it’s my first show and I’ve got some stiff competition”. After handing out all of the category awards and by the time they handed out the ‘People’s Choice’ award I had pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I wasn’t taking anything home except the experience. Then they announced the ‘Best of Show’ and I was shocked to hear my name called out! I was grinning from ear to ear and was thrilled to get top prize in the first show that I entered!

I had submitted three artworks and the winner was ‘Gooey Chocolate Caramel Nougat #1′, a small version of which is embedded. To see a larger version with more detail, follow the link to the piece in my online gallery. The other work I had submitted was ‘Sinuosity #1‘ and ‘Dimensional Peek #1‘.

Mensa SEO

October 31st, 2007

The Mensa Phoenix chapter sent out an image of my artwork Sinuosity #1, along with a little note mentioning my being featured artist for a day at Imagekind, and for the month in my local art league. It goes out to about 600 people and has links to Daniel’s blog “Art That Doesn’t Suck“, Sinuosity, and my main gallery. Alright!!! A little more SEO never hurts.
