The Enlightenment Series - These unique art pieces, a modern rendition with an Eastern influence, look like a smooth, shiny - possibly bronze - statue of a monk or a student sitting in the lotus position. The head is bent over while the student intently studies the scrolls of his master. The Zen word for sudden enlightenment is "satori"; a profound revelation. The art is intended to be universal and to apply to all those who study, all people that seek knowledge.
The heap of scrolls on the pupil's lap seem to emanate a light of their own, as the student seeks to understand their knowledge, and achieve wisdom in return. If you're a student, you can probably relate to this piece.
You might view it as the enlightened master at his studies, or an officer of the court, or your child in school, or it may possibly bring to mind some moment when a realization descended upon you while reading or studying.
The soft greens, blues and golds lend a peaceful serene feeling to the artwork. "Enlightenment #1" (the artist's favorite of this series) has a poster appearance to it, while the other three do not.
"Sands of Time"
Looking like a fossil, this unique artwork, with its image of a fish, hints of moving water and waves, and the mysterious multiple convolutions, makes for a very unusual composition. The art has a likeness to a three dimensional fossil - but a fossil unlike anything found in nature. Still, its carved relief appears to be a snapshot of a an era gone by, and it leaves plenty of room for the imagination.
The brown, tan and gold sandy coloration, with hints of green, blue and cream, makes for an interesting color combination that should work well in a variety of settings.
